Contour photography is a light sectioning technique for three- dimensional facial measurement in which telecentric lenses are used to eliminate divergence. In this paper the reproducibility of the technique is assessed using firstly an inanimate object and then a sample of 12 carefully posed mature subjects. The problems inherent in the technique are discussed and its use as an alternative to stereophotogrammetry for three-dimensional facial measurement is evaluated.
