A deserved second edition of this textbook that has become established as a standard undergraduate textbook. Its clear typeface, and uncluttered and logical presentation make it easy to read. There are ample high quality colour photographs that complement the text. There are no new chapters in this edition, but the chapter on Anchorage, Tooth Movement and Retention is now contributed by Bridget Doubleday. Nigel Carter retains the chapters on Facial Growth and Functional Appliances. The references at the end of each chapter retain the helpful one or two line summaries that assist with further selective reading. These references have been updated with new papers and some references from the first edition have been dropped. The chapters are arranged in a logical sequence starting with basic core information, and becoming increasingly complex in subject matter. It is the sort of book that benefits from being read from start to finish by the undergraduate as it covers everything (and more) that they will need for their exams. More experienced readers will still benefit from reading the book, but would be able to dip in to individual chapters.
Anyone who is looking for contemporary orthodontic information suitable for undergraduates and general dental practitioners will find everything they need in this book. It should be available in every dental school library.
