Editorial

All change

Kevin O’Brien

I hope that readers of the Journal have noticed that we have made a change in our publisher from Oxford University Press to Maney Publishing. As a result, there have been several subtle changes to the Journal that I am sure have been improvements. This reflects a gradual evolution of the Journal over the past few years and allows us to keep pace with the ever-changing world of publishing and orthodontics.

We have also made some changes to the editorial board of the Journal, as many of the existing board had served for many years and I felt that they needed a break from the demands of constantly providing me with advice. I am very grateful for all their help over the past few years, particularly when I started my Editorship.

Another sign of changing times is an increase in the number of orthodontic journals. It has been suggested to me that we do not need any additional journals, as keeping up with the literature is becoming more difficult. We should, however, consider the type of papers that are being published in the newer orthodontic journals, which seem to be based around case reports and personal opinion. There is a place for this in orthodontics and this is why the Journal of Orthodontics attempts to publish case reports in addition to scientific papers. This is one policy that we shall not change and we shall, hopefully, continue to produce a journal that contains the correct mix of papers that are felt to be of use to the orthodontic community.
