Editors Note

Medical Disorders and Orthodontics

Philip Benson

Included with this issue of the Journal is a special supplement entitled Medical Disorders and Orthodontics. Due to advances in medical science, patients with serious medical conditions often have a better prognosis for life and can look deceptively healthy. These people occasionally present requesting orthodontics and it is important to understand the implications of their condition for treatment.

The supplement has been prepared by well-known UK authors who have previously written articles in this area. It was originally published in the German journal Informationen aus Orthodontie und Kieferorthopädie and has been reproduced by kind permission for the benefit of readers of the Journal of Orthodontics. I hope that you find the supplement informative and a useful source of reference when managing patients with medical conditions.
